Corporation Discussion Notes

WCTA members present: Martessa Conover, Lossie Crane, Wayne Shipe, Steve Sims, and Chris Sluder

Item 1.  Personnel.  Dr. Keen outlines some last minute positions being filled throughout the district including an additional 3^rd grade teacher at MGES.

Item 2.  Professional Development.

WOW coordinators will be addressing staff district-wide at first day meetings.  The February 2^nd staff development day will be dedicated to 6+1 and the Smekans study.
Although the textbook adoption isn't until next year the Administration requested the Association appoint members to the Math Committee begin working on narrowing the power standards and curriculum review based on NWEA data.

Item 3.  Alternate Evaluation

Principals will be going over details of the new alternate evaluation process with all staff members at the beginning of the school year.  While the actual form to be used for this new process resembles a PDSA, teachers, together with their principals, teachers may adopt the form to fit their particular teaching situation.  Dr. Keen mentioned that the goal of this new process is to be developmental and non-threatening.

 Item 4.  2009-10 Calendar

 Three examples of possible calendar scenarios were presented to the association for review.  Dr. Keen stated that their survey of parents revealed that they would rather not have inclement weather makeup days throughout the second and third trimesters.  The Administration proposes to add the inclement weather makeup days to the end of the third trimester.  If the days are not required, they would be dropped and everyone would be dismissed three days earlier.

In addition to reviewing the placement of inclement weather makeup days, the Administration provided two start days a week apart and requested teacher input.  Building representatives will be gathering input from the teachers in their building.  WCTA will analyze this input at the next Executive Board meeting and present a position on which calendar is preferred at the September Corporation Discussion Meeting.
