Corporation Discussion
Notes Members Present: Martessa Conover, Lossie Crane, Suzanne Amiss, Steve Sims, Wayne Shipe, Karen Bontrager, Marcie Durbin Administrators Present: Mark Keen, Chase Stinson, Todd Lambert, Chris Baldwin, Lynn Schemel Item 1. Field Trips Due to the rising fuel costs, future field trips will be held for their educational value, sports related-games, etc. Item 2. Grants Lynn Schemel explained that the formula for deciding Title I schools has been changed. This change will allow 4 schools in our district to be Title I schools, Carey Ridge Elementary, Westfield Washington Elementary School, Westfield Intermediate School and Westfield Middle School. Title I is based on the number of students receiving free and reduced lunch. Each school will implement a plan that they feel will work in their building. Item 3. Personnel A redistricting committee will begin to meet in late August and continue for @ 1-1/2 months. They will be handling the new building redistricting and school start times. Additional postings have been in our pay check mailings. Item 4. Discussion Training Dr. Keen and the WCTA Executive board will be involved in Discussion Training. This will help principals and Association Representatives in each building become more familiar with discussion protocol. It will take place before the first building discussion in our district for 08-09. Item 5. Kindergarten Update Carey Ridge and Washington Woods will both offer all day kindergarten. The Administration plans to conduct it as they did last year because of transportation. WCTA suggested that they use Launch Model from previous years and place the students half days in various classes to provide role modeling. The Administration stated that they would consider it and discuss it at the next meeting. Item 6. Power Teacher For those who would like to train this summer several dates will be offered through your pay mailing. WCTA advocated for this important training and for Central Office to pay our summer per diem as it is such an important aspect of your school year. In addition, there will be time on the first day of school for training or prep time. Some people will be trained in more depth so that someone in the building will be able to help after the initial training. Item 7. Vision Insurance During WCTA bargaining last summer it was agreed that all certified employees will receive Vision Insurance. The entire premium will be paid by the Corporation. There will be a one-time opportunity for those who are presently not enrolled in the vision insurance plan to signup for vision insurance after which the enrollment will be closed. Watch for details. Next Meeting. August 6, 11:30am Board Room, Administration Center |
